'easter was not close to being as damaging as superstorm sandy, but it did not help matters. gas rationing will begin tomorrow. motorists can fill up only every other day. police officers will be in force in that system. many residents in that area are just tired. >> it is not a big deal, usually, but it makes things really hard. >> governor chris christie says he expects power to be fully restored from most forms by saturday. but the american red cross is one agency that sent members to help out in the wake of hurricane sandy. >> some remaining staff members could soon be going on strike. >> they are working to negotiate a new contract, but a red cross spokesman said if the staff does decide to strike, it would be terrible timing. he said the red cross has already lost 370 blood drives because of hurricane sandy, and the need for blood is even higher because of the storm. new york and new jersey continued to deal with the aftermath of hurricane sandy, and the red cross is one of many organizations that has stepped in to help. >> a lot of staff members have volunteered their time. >> now 50 staff mem

and it has been so cold all week. i'm looking forward to the weekend. >> since sandy went through, our temperatures have been above average and finally made to 60 degrees yesterday and that's the trend for the weekend, not a chilly. that won't last forever but it's landing on the weekend which is a good thing. to get the warmerir in here, we really have to have a warm front come in and that's the process going to right now. you can see on the radar, don't be put off by this. at the moment, clear skies, crescent moon out there this morning up in the eastern sky. the moon has been rising for the past few hours. but we do have with this warm front and warmer air coming in from the west, a little bit of cloud and shower activity. it's almost just sprinkles in the mountains of pennsylvania going through johnstown right now, moving in our direction. we could see a few clouds this morning and maybe a sprinkle or brief shower but basically the weekend forecast is a good one and i'll have details coming up in a couple of minutes. >> a bombshell resignation washington is our big story this morni

this in the aftermath of sandy and, of course, this week's nor'easter. police officers are helping to enforce the new rule which requires cars to fuel up on alternating days. today only drivers whose plates ended in an odd number were allowed to buy gas. tomorrow will be the even numbered day and mayor mike bloomberg says the ration doing go on for a while. >> there will be shortages for possibly another couple weeks. >> i've been in line for hours before in odds and evens. now the line is only five minutes long. >> so maybe that's all working out. the nor'easter did temporarily knock out power at a terminal that pumps 4.5 million gallons of gas a day to new york city and long island. the gas crunch caused prices to jump more than 20 cents a gallon in that area. president obama will visit new york to get a look at the recovery from sandy next thursday. >>> we're hearing a firsthand account of frightening moments for some united states airlines passengers headed from denver to dulles. the crew declared an in flight emergency after a man started praying in the aisle and wouldn't follow instructions. a

storm aimed at the hard hit northeast. and al is in sandy point, new jersey, again this morning. al, good morning to you. >> they built this berm, this dune a mile long yesterday to protect against the nor'easter yesterday to put in an access point and bringing in dump trucks to bring in more sand to protect against a storm surge. let's show you the northeast, because they are making a way along the new jersey coast and bringing in strong northeasterly winds and wind gusts from 30 to 40 miles per hour, and we are expecting airport delays along the i-95 corridor and expecting storm surge from two to four feet of storm surge along the eastern board. the storm surge is going to be causing problems on the beach erosion, and shore waves of 8 to 12 feet. and we have rain with the system. we are talking about anywhere from two to four inches of rain, but look at what is behind it. along the new york/new jersey shoreline, on into pennsylvania and upstate new york, we are talking about snow. some areas are picking up six to nine inches of snow. the philadelphia area has a winter storm warnin

winner tonight. it was devastated, as you know, by that superstorm sandy and still awaiting word how many people in the storm zone could actually show up. but we are ready to project that the winner tonight in new jersey is president obama, george. >> so we still see the north is going to president obama, the south is going to governor romney. so far just about everything as expected right now. see the states filled in that have been called already but we'll keep our eye all night long on these big battlegrounds where the campaigns have invested so much time and energy and money. the big states that are going to tip the balance tonight, the vote continues to come in. i want to go to ohio. you see it on the map right now if we can zone in on the board. we see about 20% of the vote has now come in ohio. president obama has 59% of that so far. governor romney, 40% and jon karl, i want to go to you. so much of that lead is based on the early vote that was made before today. >> yeah, that's exactly right and, remember, i said at this time exactly four years ago, obama had a 33-point lead over
